Ukulele for Beginners, Continuing Beginners, Intermediate, and Upper Intermediate students

TOTAL Beginner
Wednesdays at 6:30 pm
February 19, 26, and March 5, 12, 19, 26
6-week session: $150
Zero ukulele experience? We will cover everything you need to start and get you strumming away on day one. You’ll learn foundational skills, essential chords, and accessible songs all in a welcoming environment!
Pre-requisites: Minimum of 5 students in class. Must supply your own ukulele!
Continuing Beginner 2
Wednesdays at 7:30 pm
February 19, 26, and March 5, 12, 19, 26
6-week session: $150
We’ll expand our chord knowledge, further explore strum and picking techniques, and improve upon foundational aspects of playing covered in previous classes.
Pre-requisites: Minimum of 5 students in class. Must have taken the Total Beginner and a continuing beginner ukulele class OR know the F, C, and G chords.
Intermediate
Thursdays at 6:30 pm
February 20, 27, and March 6, 13, 20, 27
6-week session: $150
For those with a bit more experience, know a handful of chords (see pre-requisites below), and want to get a better wrangle on their instrument! We’ll continue to expand our chord knowledge, deepen our understanding of the subtleties of the left and right hands, and begin to develop our own personal sound.
Pre-requisites: Minimum of 5 students in class. Must have taken at least two sessions of Continuing Beginner OR know the Island Strum; and C, F, G, Am, Em, C7, G7, E7
Upper Intermediate
Thursdays at 7:30 pm
February 20, 27, and March 6, 13, 20, 27
6-week session: $150
This class is designed for those who have a good familiarity with basic chords, a handful of strum and fingerpicking patterns under their fingers, and a desire to see and hear what more the ukulele has to offer!
Pre-requisites: Minimum of 5 students in class; Must have taken at least two sessions of Intermediate ukulele OR know the Island Strum; and C, F, G, D, A, Dm, Am, Em, C7, G7, D7, A7, E7, B7
In chronological order, Armand Aromin is a queer Filipino American musician, percussive dancer, singer, and violin maker now enmortgaged in Riverside, RI with his partner, Benedict Gagliardi. More importantly, if you can say “Arm & Hammer” you’re pronouncing his name correctly! Like many who came before him, Armand’s ukulele journey, too, began with the Irish fiddle in high school. After a text-message-break-up his senior year (he’s doing fine) his heart told him, “The only way to heal is to stress-purchase a 5-string banjo.” And so he did. But while contentedly clawhammering his way through college, he beheld his first ukulele, and thus his eyes were truly opened. It was as if a banjo-shaped weight was lifted from his shoulders! Now, lo these many years, the clawhammer’s twang has graced and grazed many an ear with a growing repertoire of tunes and songs that continue to wonderfully confound the writer of this bio.
Armand is one-half of The Vox Hunters, a quarter of Eight Feet Tall, and at least a third of The Ivy Leaf. He proudly owns Aromin Violins, a tiny basement workshop in his first, and only, house. Armand teaches group classes at Blackstone River Theatre and also teaches private lessons at home.
